Living Like Jesus

Your exercise in the coming days is to collapse the distance that you have with nonbelievers. Look for ways to be in close proximity to people where you will have opportunities to simply live like Jesus and allow your life to reveal your discipleship to Him. As you do this, if you follow the exercise of praying for lost people, you will be shocked at the moments that the Holy Spirit opens conversational doors to share your story and share His story! Here is a list of ideas to get you started as you look for ways put yourself on the “mission field.”

  • Volunteer in a shelter, food pantry, or other place that will surround you with non-Christians. This is perhaps the easiest location to have spiritual conversations as there is a shared interest in sacrifice and service.
  • Join a local club, league, or hobby group such as running or biking. Shared hobbies often break down the wall of private lives and bring plenty of opportunities to get to know people better.
  • Be intentional in public spaces such as coffee shops or parks. Don’t hesitate to ask someone about a book that you notice or a tattoo that piques your interest. Most of the time, people love to share about themselves.
  • If you have kids, connect with other parents through school or sport leagues. Many parents rub shoulders with the same people repeatedly which allows ample time to build relationships and have meaningful conversations.

BONUS PRACTICE FOR PARENTS:

If you have kids, these exercises are incredible ways to naturally integrate a lifestyle of disciple-making into your family. Expose your kids to the world around them and the brokenness that a world without Christ experiences. Share with them your heart for lost souls and develop them as disciple-makers!
